not many woman artist are known from the 18th century, specially not with crayons and pastels...
this is Rosalba Carriera
born in Venice she is one of the most recognized woman artist of her time, and not only that but she was recognized by the wonders in the pastel technique, all of her artwork, portraits mostly, is simple yet i find it extremely alluring, with soft tones, soft lighting she made the portraits come to life. i personally am in awe of the life giving in the eyes of her works. even thought pastel is a bit messy, she makes them look almost ethereal and living.
